‘A state of not-knowing’ and the after-effect

Updated May 8, 2023

Everything believed to be a fact is made of the brain. It is, for example, not a fact that you see this picture now. It has taken the brain one second to fabricate this experience. Hence what you believe in seeing, you saw in the past. And then again, there was no picture one second ago. It is a fantasy of the brain made from nothing to make it look like you are something. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

TWISTING EMPTINESS INTO SOMETHING EXCITING
The brain claims the experiences it produces are
founded on information from our sensory system. Most gladly accept this because otherwise, it is evident our experiences are a fantasy fabricated by the brain, wherefore what we see does not consist of tangible elements but intangible thoughts. See, Eyes do not see.

You may have noticed that even with your eyes closed, the brain can produce vivid images that look like the world you see with open eyes. And it does not require you to be sexually stimulated by something in the physical world to produce an orgasm while you are dreaming. The substantiality of what and where you believe in being is a fantasy synthesised by the brain from nothing – like if you watch several movies in a row, the brain pieces their different work of fiction into one continuous story that feels so compelling you forget it is fantasy.

That is because whether experiences are perceived as yours or others, real or imagined, authentic or fake, fabrication or factual, physical or spiritual, they are processed by the brain in one higgledy-piggledy by the same organ. It views everything it processes as nothing that needs to be shaped into something so engaging that you do not notice it is fantasy. Nor does the brain want you to see that it is as immaterial as the experiences it produces to appear as something by making you believe they establish you as someone substantial in a tangible world.

Since any experience of something has taken the brain one second to form from nothing (read more about that here), you can undo it by going back one second second, thus entering the bliss of nothing.

Those who want to be in a merry-go-round world may like to read about the bliss of a state of not-knowing. But when they realise the bliss comes from not believing to be definitive, they avoid a state of not knowing by making sure to perform as somebody definitive – for example, saying, »I need time to process it.«Photo © Alexius Jorgensen

A STATE OF NOT-KNOWING
Since every experience you have has taken the brain one second to manufacture, the origin of what you believe in experiencing now is one second away (read more about that here). Therefore, if you go back one second, you return to the nothingness the brain has twisted into something you perceive to happen now.

Unfortunately, the freedom from something may feel claustrophobic because you have nowhere to hide your emotions. Fortunately, this exposes them as nothing, wherefore you enter a state of not-knowing. Since that is like falling into an unsubstantial body, you neither feel physical nor integrated with higher energies. Hence there is no need to label anything.

Nevertheless, the brain goes on like before, producing experiences of something from out of nothing. But since what you believed in being cannot be recalled in a state of not-knowing, there is nobody to perceive its experiences as something. That is why you are in the bliss of nothing, thus nowhere, because it has not been rendered into something by the brain. However, there is nobody to be aware of this until you return to the conscious experience of being someone definitive, and blissful memories of not believing to be someone pop up.

In other words, everything said in Alexius’ Enlightened Non-Teachings about a state of not-knowing is based on Alexius’ memories. And though a state of not-knowing is impersonal, memories are personal, so Alexius’ memories may differ from yours – like two persons drinking the same tea often remember it differently.

The brain feels abandoned if you are more than 20 minutes, 45 at most, in a state of not-knowing because you have not reacted to the brain’s fiction as if it is real. Therefore, since it gives up producing more experiences of you as someone, you cannot return to the consciousness of being someone in a world of something, nor can you continue in the bliss of nothing since the fantasy about being someone is over.

In a state of not-knowing, your eyes may be closed or open. Perhaps you sit in a bus or a park, walk down a noisy street, talk a lot or are silent. Everything is normal, and thoughts go on as usual since what and where you appear to be is a construction of thoughts. There is one difference, though. Before, thoughts were perceived as something, and now as nothing. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

But most likely, you leave a state of not-knowing a long time before the brain falls apart. And since you are returning to the consciousness of being someone definitive with a clean slate, you automatically serve the brain, thus everybody, because the brain has no personal preferences.

Only in a world where there seems to be more than one, does there appear to be levels, so if you experience to be advancing through levels, the belief that in more than One is not being undone but enhanced.

Since this feels very satisfying, you do not look for something specific but happily go with the duality flow (Duality Hack #8 The duality flow goes to non-duality) or take a break from duality via a state of not-knowing, or maybe you remain there so the enlightenment of that which is One can undo the belief in being someone. It does not alter or transform anything, as that requires more than one. Instead, it wipes out everything that calls for more than one. Hence there is nobody to be aware that you graciously keep falling until there is nothing to unite with oneness. Read more about that in Duality Hack #10 The Enlightenment of that which is One.

The willingness to have that done is often initiated by admitting you are not willing to recognise what you believe in being is nothing. By acknowledging this, you agree that what you appear to be is make-believe, thus, not real. About willingness, see Willingness not to exclude but include undoes the belief in a world where there seems to be more than one.

If you try to return to a state of not-knowing by replicating the last one, you will not enter it because what you intend to replicate is memories, and contrary to a state of not-knowing, they are perceived as something. And if you use second-hand knowledge of how to get the bliss of nothing, you become the special self. Since it focuses on realising itself, you will not enter a state of not-knowing as it is selfless.

You cannot welcome the Enlightenment of that which is One when you want to exist because it takes more than one to be alive. This does not mean you need to die. That also calls for more than one.

Having glimpses of enlightenment, you stick to one aspect at a time. So if you feel it, you do not try to see it. Yet, if visions of it start to take over, you go with that. Suppose you do not try to divide your vision into different shapes. In that case, you will not see patterns and colours in the visual glimpses of enlightenment but one bright light. It sucks out everything you believe to be so that there is nothing to gracefully fall through a black hole into that which is One. Read more about that here. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

GLIMPSES OF ENLIGHTENMENT IN A STATE OF NOT-KNOWING
In a state of not-knowing, you may have glimpses of enlightenment. But they are not the enlightenment of that which is One – just like a movie trailer is not the movie but samples of it.

The enlightenment of that which is One cannot be experienced because it requires more than one to be aware of something. Nevertheless, you can see, hear, feel or taste glimpses of it. They are experienced with the inward-facing senses, so they do not blend in with the world of the outward-facing senses. Read more about that here.

In other words, the visual glimpses of enlightenment do not lighten a room. On the contrary, it makes it impossible to see it. And even though the ethereal harmonies are the most subtle polyphony of bell-like sounds, they do not mix with church bells or any other mundane sound. That is why you better block out glimpses of enlightenment when driving a car or doing something else that calls for your focus on the world of the outward-facing senses.

Since we are used to perceiving experiences as coming from outside, we perceive glimpses of enlightenment to come from inside or another world. But this is not so. They come from a gap in nothing, almost unprocessed by the brain. The experiences perceived to be outside of us also come from nothing. However, they are heavily processed by the brain to appear as something.

Whether your eyes are open or closed, you can apply one or more of Alexius’ duality hacks wherever you are. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

HOW TO ENTER A STATE OF NOT-KNOWING:
All Alexius’ Duality Hacks, except the Enlightenment of that which is One, will eventually take you back one second to nothingness the brain has twisted into something, as explained above. Below we explore that a bit further.

When you feel speedy and restless, you use its uncontrolled energy to ignite a take-off to the empty breath (see Duality hack #9 In the bliss of nothing with the empty breath). But if you feel tired, pretending to be that probably is the better choice of a hack because what you pretend to be is not you (see hack #2 Pretending to be in a world of duality, you undo it).

If you tend to justify everything unpleasant with the world, perceiving everything as symbols of oneness could be the hack to apply. In this case, Alone Together is also a good hack. Read more about these hacks in Duality Hack #3 Seeing duality as a symbol of non-duality, and in Duality Hack #12 The key to oneness is Alone together

Please be aware that the purpose of Alexius’ Duality Hacks is not to heal the body but the sick belief that you are in it. That said, the more this unhealthy belief is healed, the more the body is set free from your dominance. Hence the biological system is not blocked from caring for the body on its terms. However, sometimes a kickstart is beneficial, for example, nootropics for boosting the brain, Blackroll for relaxing the muscles, weightlifting for toning them and far-infrared heating pads for a deep bodily relaxation. Read more about setting the body free from your dominance in hack #7 The fake mix of physical and non-physical issues.

Getting into a state of not-knowing is as easy as told, but since we all are in the habit of looking for a solution in the experiences we perceive as something, we may get lost in them, thus feeling hopeless. No worries, there is so much energy in hopelessness that unedited ignites a take-off into the empty breath.

INTERLUDE:
The experience of you as someone in a tangible world can only be exposed as a hallucination if you are willing to have the belief in being someone undone. Having that willingness, the undoing occurs when you keep reading Alexius’ Enlightened Non-Teachings. Do not expect them to save you or give you something better because it takes more than one to do so, and there is no more than that which is One since it is formless, thus endless. Fortunately, Alexius’ Enlightened Non-Teachings do not result in something but nothing, so they automatically hack the belief in being something.

The after-effect of a state of not-knowing is a certainty that the thoughts needed for being someone in a world where there seems to be more than one automatically are produced by the brain. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

THE AFTER-EFFECT OF A STATE OF NOT-KNOWING:
Suppose you do not want to end the experience of being somebody. In that case, you need to leave a state of not-knowing after 20 minutes, 45 at most – otherwise, there is not somebody to repeatedly confirm that the experiences fabricated by the brain are something. Therefore, since they are exposed as nothing, something does not appear to keep the brain together, so it falls into a coma.

But if you leave a state of not-knowing before that, you return to the conscious experience of being someone with the slate wiped clean, thus free to follow the brain’s script. See Duality Hack #6 Happiness is to be in touch with the brain. It feels like you start from the ground up, moving very slowly with no other purpose than to fine-tune the body as a tool for the experience of a tangible world.

Although it is not done systemically with coordinated movements, breathing, and meditation, others assume they if they replicate these slow movements in a focused mode via Tai Chi or Qigong, they magically enter a higher state of being. However, a state of not-knowing does not arise from focusing but from defocusing. That said, it can also occur from being deeply involved in something when it is not done per a particular philosophy or to escape something.

Returning with the slate wiped clean from a state of not-knowing to the experience of being someone, the relationships you used to have may seem dull because you have no need to exploit others when not trying to be unique.

As long as the after-effect of a state of not-knowing lasts, which can be from a few seconds to several years, you rely on the brain to produce experiences of being someone in a tangible world – just like you depend on it to compose a dream. Going along with the experiences as the brain makes them, and not as you think they should be, feels like sleepwalking. It is effortless unless you insist on doing things your way, which is stressful. Fortunately, uncontrolled stress ignites a take-off into the empty breath and the bliss of nothing, from where you return with a clean slate, thus having an effortless life as someone in the brain’s fantasy of a tangible world.

You probably go back and forth between the consciousness of being someone and a state of not-knowing many times before you forget to leave it, thus welcoming the enlightenment of that which is One. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

Like the empty breath syncs being nobody with being somebody in a state of not-knowing, so you can move around in nothing as if it is something, it also does that when you return to the consciousness of being someone. But, of course, the ratio is different in the after-effect of a state of not-knowing.

In a state of not-knowing, there is so little consciousness of being somebody that there is nobody to perceive the different experiences to make a difference. That is why you are in the bliss of nothing. But in the after-effect, the empty breath syncs the bliss of nothing with the conscious experience of something, so the nothingness is forgotten when you need to drive a car, for example. In other words, in a state of not-knowing, you are mainly nobody and, in the after-effect, somebody.

Be aware that there is no will to perceive anything in a particular way in a state of not-knowing. And the transition from a state of not-knowing to the consciousness of being someone is not noticed because there is not somebody to be aware of having been in a state of not-knowing. Nor do you not know that the bliss of nothing has wiped the slate clean, wherefore your psychological projections on the body have been lifted, and your perceptions automatically are generated in sync with the brain’s script (see Duality Hack #6 Happiness is to be in touch with the brain). However, you notice you are in the duality flow (see Duality Hack #8 The duality flow goes to non-duality) because the body feels light, and you have no need to project anything on it.

Thoughts and feelings may seem distant in a state of not-knowing, but when you return to the consciousness of being someone definitive, they are very close. However, since they are no longer perceived as something but nothing, you enjoy the intimacy of nothing in whatever shape it appears to take. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

That does not necessarily mean it always is like that. Your conditioned way of reacting to something may be so deeply rooted that you return to a familiar response pattern. But, no worries, a quick visit to a state of not-knowing, and you start over again with a clean slate in the brain’s fantasy world of duality pairs.

Sooner or later, you feel so entertained by twofoldness that you are blown out. Therefore, since there does not appear to be someone experiencing something, nothing seems to hide the formlessness of oneness.

APPENDIX:
To be in sync with the script of the brain does not mean you have to like it but that you have to relate to it as it is and not as you think it should be per a particular philosophy. In other words, whether you respond with anger or joy to the brain’s script, you are in a dialogue with the brain, thus feeling its love.

But if you reject the brain’s script by responding to a story believed better, such as socialism, you are not communicating with the brain but with your fable about a better world. Hence you do not feel the brain’s love because you always seek something better.

What does ‘the empty breath’ feel like?

Updated May 8, 2023

The inner breath is not restricted to be felt as a specific form, neither to only be felt inside. The graphic is grabbed from the web.

Since the empty breath is not definitive, it cannot be experienced in a specific way. But it can be felt in undefinable ways anywhere within its non-definitive framework – whether that appears to be inside or outside the body – but never consistently the same, although it is always present.

You can feel the empty breath in many ways within its non-definable frame of a ball-like thingy. Its top passes through the head, and the bottom through the stomach. But the ball may be bigger or smaller. See below. It is not explicitly experienced inside or outside the body, so it is not an out-of-body experience. Besides, such an experience is based on the belief in being someone in a body, and the empty breath undoes that idea, so it is a no-body experience. However, that does not mean you do not take care of the body and the world around it when connected with the empty breath, but that you are indifferent to the outcome.

In the connectedness with the empty breath there is nothing that appears disturbing. But trying to connect with it everything seems disturbing, because the purpose of trying to do something is to delay it.

The inner breath has no definitive center or anything else in a fixed position, so your experience of it may be different from mine. Maybe you primarily experience it in the stomach, in the chest or both inside and outside of your body within the non definitive borders of a ball. It may change from moment to moment, as  – unlike this image – it is not static. This image however illustrates when all its movements are experienced simultaneously, which feels as if the everything stands still.

The empty breath has no definitive centre or border, nor is anything else fixed. Everything is constantly moving, so the experience changes from moment to moment. Maybe it is felt in the stomach or chest or outside the body. Should your experience differ from Alexius’ description, go with the flow as it comes to you.

FEELINGS ARE SUBJECTIVE
If you are future-minded, you might experience the empty breath starting in front of you, whereas it probably is felt to arrive from the back if you are concerned about the past. And if you are into the concepts like living in the now, being centred and balanced, it might feel like it has a centre. In other words, the experience of the empty breath is coloured by your conditioning.

That is not a problem for the empty breath because, contrary to you, it does not need to be acknowledged in a particular way. So whether you experience it in the stomach, the chest, or outside the body, it carries out its purpose: to make you indifferent to your experiences.

The empty breath is indifferent to all the apparent differences of the world, so the more you connect with it, the more you adapt to its indifference and the less you want to be someone who makes a difference.

Since the empty breath is not static, its experience may quickly change and differ from those described below. No worries, connecting with it is not about doing something specific to feel something definitive but going with the flow. You only feel obliged to do ‘the right thing’ when you want to make a difference.

I am not a talented illustrator, so instead of making an illustration of the inner breath, I have manipulated an image found on the internet in order to give you an idea of the simultaneously movements inside it.

Alexius has manipulated this scientific illustration from the internet to give you an idea of the simultaneously circular movements inside the non-definitive ball of the empty breath.

A BASIC INTRO TO THE NON-DEFINITIVE SHAPE OF THE THE EMPTY BREATH
The empty breath is modelled like an egg-shaped ball with oval circles moving inside it. But contrary to what you see in the illustration to the right, it does not have a definitive centre or border. Nor do the circles inside it. They are countless, and there are two yin-yang-shaped waves inside each one. You cannot see the waves inside the circles in the simplified illustration to the right. But in the second image from here, there is a sample of two waves inside one of the circles.

That the empty breath has a non-definitive form does not only mean its edge is blurry but that neither size nor shape is constant. It may get bigger and smaller here and there, so it momentarily feels more pear-shaped than egg-shaped. But it has no up and down, and the apparent centre of each circle inside the non-definitive ball of the empty breath is floating. Hence there are many non-fixed centres.

The innumerable amount of diffused shaped circles inside the non-definitive boundary of the empty breath is located vertically and horizontally, plus in between, with each of them having yin-yang-shaped waves inside them. There is an illustration of the yin-yang-shaped waves inside one of the circles in the below paragraph SURFING THE EMPTY BREATH. But the circles are actually fused into one yin-yang-shaped movement rolling in all directions – a bit like in the animation in the paragraph THE SWING OF THE EMPTY BREATH or the two last animations of this article.

However, since that is very difficult to comprehend in a world where we are conditioned to divide reality into more than one, most do not feel the totality of the empty breath but one of the many circles inside it. No worries. It is not about perfection but going with the flow as it comes to you.

The empty breath has no specific centre, and though it seems to consist of endless circles in various movements, everything is fused into one single move. But since this is hard to comprehend in a world where there seems to be more than one, you may find it easier to deal with one circle at a time.

Maybe the flow is a circle going vertically from the stomach around the back of the body to the top of the head when breathing in, and from there, in a circular movement in front of the body and back to the stomach when breathing out. Or it could also be in the opposite direction. It does not matter. As already said, it is about going with the flow, so follow it where it goes.

Perhaps it goes in a circle, about the same diameter as above, from the abdomen to the throat and back or the rectum to the heart and back. The circle can also expand its diameter, so it goes from the abdomen to a point above the head and back or from the rectum further above the head and back. Since the latter circle metaphorically goes from hell to heaven, you may feel frightened or spaced out if you get stuck in one of those extremes. See Duality Hack #8 The duality flow goes to non-duality.

But the circle may be smaller, from the heart to a point above the head. Or perhaps you do not feel the flow in a vertical circle from the back to the front of you but from the left to the right side or anywhere between these two. You can also feel it horizontally. But no matter where you perceive the empty breath, it is the same emptiness you encounter (read more about that here).

Below is a short introduction to some ways of feeling the empty breath, then a more detailed description. Be aware that feeling the empty breath, as described in this article, is only possible if you do not wish to be or have more because the empty breath has nothing to give but the sheer bliss of emptiness.

A BASIC INTRO TO FOUR WAYS OF FEELING THE EMPTY BREATH
Sensing the operator of the empty breath (see below) feels like you are floating on clouds of bliss. In contrast, going with the rhythmic flow of the empty breath is more like being moved by clouds of bliss.

The rhythmic flow can be heard as a distant sound or felt like a swing (see below). It can also be sensed as if nobody is surfing two yin-yang-like waves in and outside the body (see the next paragraph).

These categories are not meant to limit your experience of the empty breath but to inspire you to follow its flow.

d76fd0833b28d1db146c08a2dd2057d91-2

Each non-definable circle inside the cloudy ball of the empty breath – see the previous illustration – consists of two free-flowing yin-yang-like waves (without holes). It may feel like you are surfing these waves, more or less in sync with the physical breath. The colours in this image only have an illustrative purpose.

SURFING THE EMPTY BREATH
You see a simplified simulation of the empty breath in the illustration with the red circles pictured to the right above. But the circles are not actually red, and there are an endless number of them. And the drawing does not reflect that the empty breath has no definitive border or centre, and each circle inside it contains two non-definitive yin-yang-shaped wave holes (see the above image). They are colourless. The colours in this image and the others in the article only have an illustrative purpose.

When the breath expands the body, you surf the outside of the blue wave vertically from the stomach and behind the body up into the head. From there, you surf the outside of the yellow wave in front of the body down to the stomach while the breath is contracting the body. That is, if you are sensing the waves in a circle going vertically from the back to the front of the body. But, as mentioned above, the direction does not matter, and the circle can be smaller and bigger. Besides surfing the two yin-yang-like waves in a vertical circle, you can surf the waves in a horizontal circle or anywhere between.

No need to be in total sync with the rhythm of the physical expansion and contraction of the body, nor does it matter if part of the empty breath’s circular movement is skipped. What matters is you follow the flow as it comes to you. By doing that, you forget the physical breath. Hence it can take care of itself without you trying to inflict it with ideas of balance and whatnot.

Maybe the ecstatic way to surf the waves is to go the whole way around one of them and then continue by going the entire way around the other, more or less aligned with the breath extracting and contracting the body. However, many other joyous ways are probably revealed when you are in the flow.

Alexius has never been surfing in the world of the outward-facing senses, so when he says going with the flow of the two yin-yang like waves in a circle inside the empty breath feels like surfing, it is something he imagines based on movies.

As already said, you can surf the waves of the empty breath in both directions. Going counterclockwise tends to lessen physical awareness, so you become less interested in returning to the conscious experience of being someone substantial in a tangible world. The same applies if the non-definable edges of the empty breath are not experienced to pass through the head but on top of it and below the abdomen.

That sets the body free, so it can follow its biological system without you trying to integrate it with mental ideas of wellness. It is like trying to blend the material world with the immaterial world of a dream or vice versa. It does not work. Read more about that in Duality Hack #7 Physical & non-physical issues do not mix. However, you can surf the waves of the empty breath to ease pain in the body. See the appendix at the bottom.

Since it takes more than one to feel something, it is only in a world where there seems to be more than one it is possible to do that. Therefore, the more the belief in such a world is undone by the empty breath, the less you feel it.

It is impossible to illustrate the swing of the empty breath because it has no definable form or movement. Nevertheless, this animation may give you an idea. The swing of the empty breath is generated from the blurred curved line in the middle of the picture. But even though going with the swing of it is magnificent, it is often a laid-back experience of expansion and contraction.

THE SWING OF THE EMPTY BREATH
You surf the empty breath on the waves in any of the circles within the non-definitive border of the empty breath. But you feel the swing of the empty breath from the movement of the non-definitive curved line between the two yin-yang-like waves in any of the circles (see the curved line in the illustration to the left). Perhaps due to the definitive size of the body, the curved line in the swing of the empty breath feels less bowed and probably shorter than the rounded line between the two waves described above.

The swing of the empty breath extracts and contracts the body in a steady rhythmic flow of breathing in and out that may seem slower than when you imagined being in charge of the breath. And the break in between expansion and contraction may feel longer. Nevertheless, the swing of the empty breath probably feels more powerful – so much indeed that it feels like the body does not have enough room for it at first.

The curved line does not just swing from the back to front concerning the body but also up and down, from side to side and everywhere in between, which you may sense in the illustration to the left. Though you can feel all these directions simultaneously, it probably is so unfamiliar that you may prefer to feel the swing of the empty breath in one vertical circle at a time.

The circles with the swing of the empty breath are more egg-shaped (see the illustration to the left). But you will not notice that because it is only the swing of the curved line inside ‘the egg’ that you feel, probably in a way that does not seem logical. For example, breathing in, you may solely experience the swing of the empty breath at the bottom of ‘the egg’ and breathing out at the top of it – or the other way around, or only in the bottom, or the top. You can also experience the curved line going repeatedly or up and down simultaneously.

Like the other ways of feeling the empty breath, it presupposes you acknowledge you are not in charge. Using the technique for the taste of oneness, you automatically lose control because, whether you taste it, the method is beneficial for defocusing. And without focus, you are out of control. Read about the taste of oneness and defocus in The four aspects of Enlightenment and how to sample them.

If you experience the swing of the empty breath in all the egg-shaped circles simultaneously, their fusion initially feels like everything is spinning. See the speedy animation just below. But it quickly becomes a feeling of everything standing so still that you feel the bliss of being indifferent to what and where you appear to be.

Connecting to the inner breath is fortunately not about perfection, as that requires much control and therefore blocks the inner breath to move on its own accord. The inner breath is always connected to you, but you cannot feel it if your purpose is to be someone definitive. In other words not being anybody the inner breath is not hidden. In fact it is very intense.

The swing of the empty breath is not felt as fast as the movements in this animation but rather like a steady ongoing rhythm with much force that expands and contracts the body. Yet the resulting breath in the body is often very subtle. It probably seems slower than you are used to – unlike the operator of the empty breath, which is a rush of energy within the non-definable ball that constitutes the empty breath. Even though the particles of this force are moving completely unstructured and at any speed, fast or slow – a bit like in this animation – it is such a relief to merge with this apparent chaos because that prevents you from focussing on anything specific. Hence you feel like a fountain of sparkling joy.

THE OPERATOR OF THE EMPTY BREATH
Besides feeling the swing of the empty breath or surfing its yin-yang-like waves more or less in alignment with the extraction and contraction of the physical breath, you can also feel a constant rush of energy within the non-definable border of the empty breath. This chaotic energy is not rhythmic but irregular at the root of the empty breath. Yet, it is the force behind the constant rhythm of the empty breath. The feeling is a subtle sense of being here and everywhere, or as if spinning through a world with no limits, undefined as someone.

There are no rules, but it could very well be that a take-off into the empty breath will take you to the operator of the empty breath – and what a relief it is to float in chaos instead of having to fit into the rigid world of the outward-facing senses.

Unlike the swing of the empty breath, but like surfing its waves, the operator of the empty breath is sensed inside and outside the body – or rather like there is no inside and outside. When you do not try to catch this abstractness, it feels like you are a fountain of sparkling joy. Sometimes it is easier to recognise outside, where the dense bodily feeling is not an obstacle. You will automatically be taken inside from there because the operator does not know one from the other. Next, you may start surfing the empty breath, feel the swing of it or hear its transparent sound (see the next paragraph).

Hearing/feeling the sound of the inner breath, you feel transparent, as if there is nothing to separate you from where you appear to be. The graphic is grabbed from the web.

Hearing or feeling the sound of the empty breath makes you seem transparent as if nothing is separating you from other appearances in the world of the outward-facing senses. The graphic is grabbed from the web.

THE TRANSPARENT SOUND OF THE EMPTY BREATH
Just like the rhythm of bass is heard and felt in the body, so is the sound of the empty breath, which is like ‘so’ when it expands and ‘ham’ when it contracts.

Sometimes it is like this rhythmic sound of ‘so-ham’ comes from the nose, but at other times, it is sensed from an undefined space in the back of the head. And then again, since the sound does not seem to have a definable location, it is neither experienced to be inside nor outside the head. It may even appear to originate from an invisible space outside the body that has nothing to do with it.

In other words, feeling the sound of the empty breath is not a compelling experience because it cancels out the notion of being in a body – as if there is no definable border between the body and its apparent surrounding. For example, a sofa does not seem to differ from a body sitting there when deeply connected with the empty breath (read more about that here). Consequently, since there is no inside and outside, there is nothing to define a world where there seems to be more than one, wherefore it is seen as make-believe.

But like the set-up in a game world is the same whether you know it is fictional, a world where there seems to be more than one remains the same even though you sense it is an illusion. However, your relationship with it changes. Appearing there is pretence, like when you pretend to be someone in the world of a game. See hack #2 Pretending to be in a world of duality, you undo it.

Do not get attached to the rhythm of the empty breath, because the feeling of the rhythm is related to the body, so it stops when the body does not function anymore.

Since a rhythm has a beginning and an end, it is best not to get attached to the rhythm of the empty breath, because it ends when the body stops to function. At that moment, it is better to merge with the indifference of the empty breath or the non rhythmic and very chaotic energy in its operator, so there is not something specific to stop the Enlightenment of that which is One from absorbing the nothingness of you. See hack #10 The Enlightenment of that which is One.

Via the transparent sound of the empty breath, you naturally float into glimpses of the Enlightenment of that which is One. See hack #11 Enlightenment and its glimpses. The visual-minded will experience them as visions of light, and the auditory-minded as ethereal harmonies. However, if you are more emotional-minded, you may feel the vibration that Aum, Sohang, and The Word of God symbolise or taste its sweetness.

The connection with the empty breath is a state of not-knowing. Therefore, since there is no notion of separation, the apparent difference between past, now and future makes no difference.

It is not possible to illustrate the inner breath in its totality. This yon yang animation (please abstract from the holes) though may give you an idea of the simultaneously movement of the two waves inside the inner breath.

It is not possible to illustrate the empty breath in its totality. But this yin-yang animation (please ignore the holes in the waves and imagine it is completely full of yin-yang-like waves) may give you an idea about the simultaneous movement of the waves inside it.

THE CONNECTEDNESS WITH THE EMPTY BREATH IS A STATE OF NOT-KNOWING
Nobody knows what the connectedness with the empty breath feels like because it is a state of not-knowing. So Alexius had to go back and forth between a state of not-knowing and the conscious experience of being someone to compile his distant memories of how the empty breath feels. Hence, his writing about it may seem patchy and confusing. If so, do not try to correct your disorientation but use it to ignite a take-off into the empty breath. See also Take-offs into the empty breath and How to ignite a take-off into the empty breath..

Please remember that even though the connectedness with the empty breath is impersonal, your memory of it is personal. Therefore, you may not remember it as Alexius.

If you are still confused, you are welcome to mail Alexius, although using your uncertainty to ignite a take-off into the empty breath is preferable because he can help neither you nor himself, as he sees nobody in need of help.

Hence you are better off reading about the empty breath until you can hardly stay awake. Then go to bed, forget what you read, close your eyes, and patiently wait for the empty breath. But your eyes do not have to be closed, and you do not have to go to bed to connect with the empty breath. Besides, you can sit anywhere in any position. You can also walk, run or talk. But you cannot bring about the empty breath by manipulating the physical breath or exercising any other form of control. Instead, it is the other way around. When you are not in control, the empty breath joins you.

A bicycle has nothing to do with the place, it takes you.

That is not to say that techniques cannot help you tone down the experience of being someone definitive so that your apparent existence in a tangible world is exposed as make-believe. But unfortunately, most forget that techniques have nothing to do with their accomplishments. Like the remote control, it has nothing to do with the music it triggers.

The swing of the inner breath may be experienced abruptly – like in this animation but probably a lot slower – in a s body with muscles problems from for example psoas or diafragma. There is no reason though trying to make it swing more smoothly by improving the condition of the body. The inner breath always adjust itself to the current condition of the body, so no matter how it moves it results in the same joy, providing you are not looking to be perfect. In a sick body, the swing of the empty breath might be experienced to come in bursts – a bit like in this animation but probably slower. However, no matter how restricted the swing of it is experienced, connecting with it will always entail indifference. Therefore, sticking to that, how the empty breath is experienced makes no difference.

APPENDIX: SURFING THE EMPTY BREATH TO HEAL YOUR PROBLEMS
Alexius usually join the flow of the empty breath without thinking about directions and whatnot because, in his case, it primarily results in a sense of indifference. However, it is possible to be pickier. For example, if you worry about a strange pain in the back, you can have it massaged by continuously surfing the whole wave behind you but not the wave in front of you in a vertical circle. It may not make the pain go away but surely the worry. And without that, the pain may be easy to fix. See Duality Hack #7 Physical & non-physical issues do not mix.

Should you want to be grounded, you surf the waves in a horizontal circle, passing through the abdomen or even lower. Suppose you want to enhance being impulsive. In that case, you surf all the way around the wave to the right inside a horizontal circle going around the head. If you want to be more calculated, surf the left wave instead.

In a circle that also is horizontal but around the chest, you can surf all around a wave in front of the chest to ease the restricted feeling caused by imagined emotions there. Surfing both waves in a horizontal circle around the head or stomach is excellent in the case of vertigo.

Sometimes problems like spasms are the body’s way of shaking parts into a position that benefits the whole. In such cases, spasms should be left course. But if that is not the case, you can use the empty breath to calm down the spasms.

Should you have tight hips, a blocked abdomen or spasms in the lower back, you surf the whole wave behind you and then the one in front of you in a horizontal circle in that area. You could also try surfing in a similar circle where the waves are not behind and in front of you but on your sides. The circle size, thus the waves, adjusts to the need for relaxing these areas.

The empty breath is also beneficial for alleviating allergy symptoms or the symptoms of IBS and COPD, for example. However, it may not heal these or the aforementioned physical sicknesses because Alexius’ Duality Hacks aims not to heal the body but the sick belief that someone is in it. Read more about that here. But since that frees the body from your domination, it often heals itself. That said, if this is what you want, it is best not to use the empty breath but instead be used by it and trust that it gives you what is in your best interest.

The look of these sound waves reminds me in some ways of how it feels to be connected with the inner breath.

The look of these sound waves reminds Alexius of how the connectedness with the empty breath often feels and how that makes him indifferent to the apparent differences in the world experienced outside him.

NOTE ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATIONS
Alexius searched the web for animations and still photos to illustrate the movements of the empty breath in how he remembers them. He does not know if the illustrators had the empty breath in mind when they made these images – but probably not. Except for the last three, the animations are grabbed from Electromagnetic Plasma Energy Light.

Eyes do not see. They translate

Our eyes cannot see anything at all. The tangible world we believe seeing is a construction of thoughts compound by the brain based on the light it claims to pass through our eyes. The graphic is grabbed from the web.

Even though the digital photos in Alexius’ Duality Hacks seem different and each has its own story, they are the same in the sense that they all consist of zeros and ones. The images do not seem to differ before an app translates their specific mix of zeros and ones into separate photos reminiscent of how we expect to see the world. Their apparent difference makes us forget that there would be absolutely no photos to see if they had not been rendered by an app.

This does not only apply to digital images but anything that appears to differ from something else, regardless it seems to be inanimate or animate, spiritual or physical and whatnot. In the world where we believe in being, the app that renders nothing into something is the brain.

»Your eye is like a camera … Photons pass through your lens, which focuses them onto a spot at the back of your retina. There, specialised photoreceptive structures called rods and cones convert these photons into electromagnetic impulses that your brain interprets as shapes, colours, and textures.« From an article in Wired.

First, an app translates zeros and ones into frequencies that seem to reach your eyes from your screen. Then, the brain converts those frequencies into something that looks like you expect the world to be. Lastly, you perceive that as it is made by the brain or imagine a better version. See hack #4.1 The basic self versus the special onePhoto © Alexius Jorgensen.

The human eyes can be compared to a digital camera, which contrary to an analogue camera, does not produce images on a film inside it. Instead, the digital camera records the RAW data of light coming through the lens when the shutter button is pressed.

However, this data, cannot be seen as an image on the screen of the camera before it is converted by a built-in app into contrasts defining a world defined by time and space. Technically speaking, this is most often done by rendering RAW data into a JPEG file.

If the raw data received by the eyes or any other sense is not translated by the brain into something perceivable, there does not appear to be someone experiencing anything.

Likewise, there is nowhere inside the head of us where the light recorded by the eyes is processed into an image as in an analogue camera. The data, or frequencies of light, captured by the eyes can only be seen as an image reminiscent of the world where we believe in being when the brain has fabricated it by translating the data it collects from three taps in the eyes, that respectively record red, green and blue frequencies.

Since it takes time for the brain to process the information it gets from the eyes in a specific moment, it sorts the received information into categories and only use those needed to make up the image it wants you to see. The time delay in processing, it extrapolates so it does not seem to interfere with what you perceive happen now.

Facebook can now automatically write captions on images, that can be read by blind people, so their brain can use this info to construct an image inside of them as if they actually see the image on Facebook. The graphic is grabbed from an article in Wired. As it always takes the brain about one second to accomplish this, our conscious experience of the present is a construction of thoughts about what happened one second ago. Consequently, we do not see but think the world. Read more about that here.

It is pretty similar to how artificial intelligence automatically generates an audio caption on a photo in the News Feed for blind people on Facebook, so they can fabricate an image of a pizza, for example, themselves. The image to the left that illustrates this is grabbed from an article in Wired about that.

The blind ones, however, will not know if artificial intelligence always gets it right. Nor will they or the ‘seeing’ ones understand that the brain never gets it right when it produces experiences of a world where there seems to be more than one because there is no more than that which is One since it is formless, thus endless.

So in the context of that which is One, you do not see this article because it takes more than one to see something. But nor do you see it in the context of a world where there seems to be more than one. Everything on the screen, where you believe to read this, consists of zeros and ones added together in entirely meaningless ways.

You only seem to see this as meaningless when your electronic device has translated it into wavelengths of light, reaching your eyes in ways which the brain turns into letters forming English words.

The brain is translating the raw data coming through the eyes into experiences that seem to be tangible. But it is all make-believe. Also, that the world the brain makes you see is based on info from your eyes. It is easy for the brain to fool you into beliving this because if not, you are nothing.

Reading these words in a country where the internet is censored, some of them may have been changed or left out. And if not, you most definitely exclude some yourself, so you can twist Alexius’ Duality Hacks into something that fits your perception of the world. See also The closer you look, the less you believe what you see is real.

In other words, the article you think you read is not the article Alexius has written. What you believe in reading is based on how you perceive the brain’s translation of the article that your browser has rendered from HTML, which is one of the languages an electronic media uses to convert the mess of zeros and ones into something that appears to make sense. Read more about that here.

If you experience to be running in a dream, you are mistaken. You are not in the dream but in your bed adding thoughts together in such a way that you perceive yourself to be running in a non-existing world. The same applies to everything you believe to experience in a world where there seems to be more than one. You are not there because there is no more that which is One since it is formless, thus endless.

In other words, what you believe in reading is made up by your brain, just like when you have vertigo and experience the world spinning around you. It is not happening, only in your head. And so is, for example, feeling loved or rejected. Those feelings are the same in the sense that they are not caused by anything other than electrical impulses in your head. This applies to all experiences, including those perceived as divine or spiritual. See All experiences are equally unreal.

You can compare the experience of living in a world where there seems to be more than one to using a flight simulator. Although you feel like flying, it is an illusion.

Neither humans nor self-driving cars actually see the world where they appear to be, but what their master, respectively the brain and The Cloud, based on the info coming from their senses, decides for them to see. And as you can ‘see’ in this image of how a self-driving car perceives the world, it is entirely different from how you believe to see it. The graphic is grabbed from Wired.

What you ‘see’ can be compared to what a self-driving car sees, namely nothing manipulated into something. The info received from the self-driving car sensors is shaped by The Cloud into what it wants the car to ‘see’ and respond to as real. Read more about that here.

Whether you seem to see something in a movie or what appears to be a world outside of you, it is an experience fabricated by the brain. So if someone is seen as sad, it does not mean that this is so but it this is how a certain wavelength is interpreted by the brain.

Believing to see something can also be compared to how the artificial intelligence (AI) that Facebook and Google use to sort your photos is programmed to recognise your pictures. Even though all data in electronic media consists of nothing but zeros and ones, artificial intelligence is programmed to experience special combinations of them as if they are substantial entities. The more it ‘sees’ those entities that it defines as human beings, the more it learns to interpret a particular facial expression as a special emotion. Thus it experiences to ‘feel’ what it ‘sees’ and, therefore, relate to the persons in the photos as if it is one of them.

But since artificial intelligence does not exist as somebody, nobody is relating to anybody. It is just layer upon layer of algorithms that collects data and put them together in the same way like the human brain compiles thoughts to make it appear as if there is a tangible world where there is nothing but empty space.

When a smartphone recognises your face it does not mean that it sees you. In the case of Apple, for example, it registers the electrical impulses from a grid of 30,000 invisible dots which has been projected onto your face to create a 3-D map of your facial topography. The graphic is grabbed from the web.

The brain uses the very same organ to fabricate all the apparently different experiences that it makes you conscious of. So if you split them into imaginative or real, for example, you are mistaken. All experiences are make-believe.

In other words, the experience of a world defined by time and space is a construction of thoughts made by nobody from out of nothing – or as science states, the world consists of 99.9999999 per cent empty space and the rest that we perceive as elements of matter making up a tangible world, is also blank.

»The app helps people who are blind or losing their sight ´feel´ smiles. The app uses facial recognition to find a face and then vibrates in the user’s hand to let them know that the person they’re talking with is smiling.« From an article in Wired.

The person you believe to be is blind, deaf and numb. What you experience to see, hear feel and taste, regardless it appears to be spiritual or mundane, is nothing but electrical impulses. They do not mean anything at all unless the brain manipulates them into something that appears to be a smile, for example.

The brain is like an app in a wearable device for blind people. It uses facial recognition to find a face and tells you when the algorithm suggest that it smiles, so the blind can have an experience of ‘seeing´ and/or ‘feeling´a smiling face.

Most insist that this construction of thoughts is set in motion by something. Religions claim it is done by god, and many gurus stand firm on the belief that higher consciousness is behind it, and you find it if you meditate or chant, for example. But since reality is that which is One, and it takes more than one to find something, only that which is not real can be found.

Ultimately speaking, the above is just another construction of thoughts that is as illusionary as anyone else. Yet this illusion accepts that it is not real, as it requires more than one to write, read, realise or understand it, and reality is that which is One since it is formless and therefore endless.

Thus it does not claim to expose what is real, but what is not real, so you stop to believe that there is something to see where there is nothing, and this belief, therefore, does not appear to hide there is no more than that which is One.

NOTE: The above about eyes applies to all the senses. For example, if you are tone-deaf, it is not due to a problem in the ear but the brain, which cannot find the right equation in the music.

The article is part of hack #5.1 Eyes cannot see, which is about the brain fooling you into believing that you see, hear, feel and taste a tangible world where there is nothing but empty space. See also the below articles.
