Pretending is selfless

Selflessness is not about selfless actions. There is no such thing in a world where there seems to be more than one. In such a world, you need to appear as someone separated from the whole. In other words, you must have a self.

But this does not mean you have to believe it is you – like you do not have to think you are the fighter in a computer game you play. You only have to pretend it. By ±±doing that, you are selfless. In other words, selflessness is about pretending to be what you are not.

Listening to music at home has become less physical in the last few years. First, a big and relatively heavy vinyl record was replaced with a smaller compact cassette and a more slender compact disc. Later MP3 took over. It only required a little space on your hard disk. But its recent replacement, streaming, does not require any space. The signals that carry streaming music are everywhere. However, they cannot be seen nor heard as music before an electronic device has picked them up and translated them into sounds you perceive as music. That enables you to listen to whatever you want, wherever you are, although what you hear is not there.

In some ways, it is the same thing that happens when you experience being someone. At least according to the brain. It claims to receive signals from your sensory system that it translates into the experiences of being someone in a world where there seems to be more than one. However, the signals are picked up from nowhere because, according to science, the word we see is made of empty space.

Since everybody wants to be somebody, they suppress being nobody, thus feeling depressed depression, whereas acknowledging the deception feels uplifting. It sets ‘you’ free to pretend to be what and where you are not. That is quite fun.

It takes a great effort to make an illusion like Santa Claus appear real. The same applies to the idea that it is possible to be in a world where there seems to be more than one because there is no more than that which is One since it is formless, thus endless. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen

There is no way to survive in a world where there seems to be more than one without physically, mentally, emotionally and energetically grabbing something from someone who appears to be outside of us. Thus everybody is afraid of not having enough. And if they get it, they worry somebody will take it from them as they took it from somebody else. Read more about that here.

Most feel guilty about taking as much as possible at the expense of others. Some hide this guilt behind the pleasure they get from the appreciation they get from society for being successful at profiting from others. Others start looking for ways to improve themselves by meditating or making the world better by treating everybody as equals.

But since these solutions are based on the belief that you have done something wrong, the feeling of guilt is enhanced psychologically. On the other hand, if what you do is something you pretend, you can grab as much as you want without feeling guilty because what you pretend to do is not real – like when you play a game like Monopoly to take everything from everybody.

Most sense something is missing, so they want to be and have more. But you cannot become or get more because that which is you is no different from that which is One, which is formless, thus endless. Therefore, since you have everything. It is impossible to miss something unless you believe there is more than One. Fortunately, you can undo this belief by pretending to be someone who has more than One because what you pretend, you are not.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

You can only feel something if you pretend it is possible to be and have more than that which is One because it takes more than one to feel anything.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

When you do not try to fix anything, there does not appear to be more than one. Hence the belief that it is possible to be and have more than that which is One falls apart. Of course, this does not mean you should not try to solve something while you have this belief. But if you pretend to be solving it, no one fixes something. Hence the belief that it is possible to be and have more than that which is One still falls apart. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

The need to base your perception of the world on a system like astrology can be compared to using crutches when a leg is broken. They can help you start walking again, but they must be put aside when it is accomplished. The same applies to any belief system in the world. The way to leave them and start walking on your own is to not believe in them but pretend that you do.

That detaches you from the system and the person you believe to be according to it. Thus you are free to pretend you are a father, mother or whatever you like to explore in the game of being someone in a world where there seems to be more than one.

Money cannot save you, nor sex, love or romance. And your parents, precious children and the latest flat-screen TV cannot help you. Fortunately, it is not needed – like in a computer game, you do not need help because you are not in there. Likewise, it is impossible to be in a world where there seems to be more than one because that which is you is no different from that which is One.

That is why you pretend to be in such a world – like you, within its context, pretend to be someone in a computer game.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Since it requires more than one to have a problem, and since there is no more than that which is One, there are no problems unless you believe it is possible to be and have more than that which is One. In that case, the undoing of your belief is the solution to all problems. One way to undo it is to pretend to be and have more than that which is One because what you pretend to be and have is not real.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Not believing but pretending to be someone feeling something rules out that the experience is real because you are not what you pretend to be. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

The more you see that a world where there seems to be more than one is make-believe, the more depressed you may get until it dawns on you that it means you are not there. Therefore, since nothing matters, you are free to pretend to be what makes you happy.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Seen from the perspective of someone in a world where there seems to be more than one, the formlessness of that which is One is a lonely affair. A person who believes in more than one needs company.

However, if you do not believe but pretend to be someone, you do not need others to confirm you are real because what you pretend to be is not real. Therefore, you are free to enjoy any relationship.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Since there is no more than that which is One, being together is impossible, and so is being lonely, except in fantasy.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

If you believe in being someone biking, driving, meeting friends and whatnot, you need this to result in something specific to feel good. But if you pretend to be someone biking, driving, meeting friends and whatnot, how the experience turns out is not essential because all feelings ar entertaining when they are pretence.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

You are mistaken if you think you feel anger, love or something else because it takes more than one to feel something, and that which is you is no different from that which is One. No worries. This mistake is easily corrected. If you pretend to be angry, fall in love or whatnot, nobody is feeling it because what you pretend to be, you are not.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Whether you believe in being someone or pretend it, what you appear to be is bound to end. That often causes panic. And even if it is conquered, death is not beaten if you try hanging onto your belief in being someone. However, pretending to be it, there is nothing to overcome because what you pretend to be is not real. Thus nobody is dying.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

The experiences produced by the brain are like tricks made by a magician. Nothing is what it appears to be. Likewise, you will not die if you do not identify with your appearance in a world where there seems to be more than one. It is only the experience of more than one that stops. So if you do not believe it is real but pretend it, nothing dies other than the illusion there is more than that which is One.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

You can pretend you follow god, your higher self or your spouse, for example. But if you believe you do it, you are lost because it is impossible to follow something unless you believe in a world where there seems to be more than one. And nor you or such a world does exist because it takes more than one to get by, and there is no more than that which is One.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Nobody pretends to be somebody because there is no more than that which is One, and it takes more than one to do anything. Hence pretending is just as illusionary as anything else that requires more than one. However, this illusion does not establish you as someone in a world where there seems to be more than one because what you pretend to be, you are not.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

As repeatedly said in Alexius’ Enlightened Non-Teachings, there is no more than that which is One since it is formless, thus endless. Consequently, there is nothing to learn in a world where there seems to be more than one other than it is fake. Knowing that undoes the belief it is possible to be someone separated from others. However, if you are not ready for that, you may feel like someone with no one around you, which is frustrating and claustrophobic because there is nobody to define you as someone. The problem is that you still do not know that in oneness, what you believed in being in a world where there seems to be more than one is gone, and so is that world. And there is nothing to recall the memory of ever having been someone there. Hence there is no frustration or relief. Actually, there are no feelings as that requires more than One.

Therefore, if you do not want to go there right away, you may take your time unlearning there is more than One, for example, by pretending to be someone separated from others in a world where there seems to be more than one. Then, since you are not what you pretend to be, you can enjoy appearing separate while slowly but surely stopping pretending what you are not, thus eventually not hiding that which is you, namely the formlessness of oneness.

Please be aware that the above is written within the context that you want to undo the belief in a world where there seems to be more than one. While you believe to be in such a world, there is much to learn, but not regarding having that belief undone.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

By pretending to be a person in a world, that is not there, you know, that the one pretending is not there.

By pretending to be someone definitive in a world where there seems to be more than one, you undo the belief that it is possible to be and have more than that which is One.  Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

If you are tired of pretence and falseness and look for more authenticity, you deceive yourself. Everything experienced is fake because it takes more than One to be aware of something, and there is no more than that which is One. In other words, authenticity cannot be known since it takes more than one to be aware of something.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

In the same way, as children’s toys symbolise something in the world of grown-ups, everything in their world is a symbol of that which is real, namely the formlessness of oneness. Perceived like that, pretending the world is real is not frustrating but entertaining.
